Custom (Signature/Elite Series Rods)
There are clear differences between custom and factory built rods. Just as a note, they are called rods. Rods have guides and a way to attach a reel to it. A typical fishing pole is made of cane, has no guides and the line is attached to the tip with no reel. Anyone can buy a factory built rod from any one of the many rod manufacturers. Don’t get us wrong, they build a nice rods, but you do get off-the-shelf, standardized components that reflect the compromises that are made in a one-size-fits-all environment.
Signature Series Custom Rods, such as our Phantom and Ghost models start start with the same components/specs that are available on our Elite Series rods. The difference is we can take one of those available rods and customize it for you, with the guide wrap colors of your choice, among a few other limited choices, such as grip material, or guide choices, or rod decoration.
Elite Series rods are full customs, where you have control over every aspect of the build, from tip to butt, including, but not limited to, rod length, power and action, guides, guides set-up to specific reels, wrap colors, grip material, grip length, reel seats, and more.
So, why pay top-shelf prices for a run-of-the-mill factory-built rod? With a ZombieStick, Custom Shop Signature Series or Elite Series Rod built specifically for you, you get a custom rod just for your specific fishing technique and style. Our Custom Shop rods are fishing machines that start with a top-of-the-line rod blank, designed for your specific application.
All of our rods use the high quality guides. With the Elite Series rods we custom select them of a type and style that fits your fishing requirements, with the proper spacing, tuned to the reel you are using, put on with wraps in the color of your choosing. Grip materials include cork, EVA, or custom combination, customized to lengths that fit your frame. If a gimble is required on the butt end we utilize quality machined alumimun parts for durability. Our Elite Series rods use premium reel seats that are fully CNC machined from marine grade aluminum, then given a hard anodized finish to ward off corrosion. All our reel seats are installed with full length arbors, providing a super strong bond between the reel seat and the rod blank, that greatly increase rod sensitivity.
Customized gear does make a difference. Your fishing experience is enhanced because the components are selected and customized to fit you and your fishing style, all for about the same cost as any other high end rod from the manufacturer.
Get the rod you always wanted – tell us which power, action, line and lure weights you need, what rod length you’re thinking about, and what your specific fishing conditions are. We’ll come up with a blank and guide setup that will be perfect for your situation, fits inside your budget. We’ll put on grips and a reel seat sized just for you, and make your new rod an absolute blast to fish with.
Tip Top, this is the guide at the very tip of your fishing rod, its also the smallest, and probably the most important. This is the guide you are most likely to break off. When you are not watching, it likes to get caught in car doors, stepped on, or damaged on the boat. With the exception of ultralights, we wrap all our tip tops, and this serves several purposes. It helps protect the rod blank if fishing line gets tip wrapped, and the user makes a few reels before noticing extra tension. Braided lines tend do to more damage than mono. Most rods are exposed to a lot of heat, especially in Florida, sitting in a hot car, in the sun on a boat deck, etc. Heat allows the glue/epoxy to soften. Wrapped tips tend not to fail as often if exposed to a lot of heat, and the rods look nicer.
For some, rod decals are the perfect finishing touch to give your rods that custom look. We have access to an extensive selection of contour-cut rod decals – from your favorite gamefish to your favorite college teams, we’re sure to have a decal for every occasion. We can even have created a custom decal from your own graphic design for your own unique branding on your custom rod! We can also tailor your wraps to match decals. Have a favorite Team, we can customize the colors to match the team colors as well as apply a team logo. We can also do custom cross wraps if you desire.
Properly aligning guides can be one of the most tedious tasks for any builder when building a custom rod. We project a perfectly straight beam down the rod, all the way to the tip. We do this several times during the build process to insure that we are building on the spine (as identified during the deflection process) and the guides are set straight. We follow the blank manufacturers guide spacing recommendations to conduct the initial layout of the guides. Then we custom tune all the guide spacings based on the specific reel you will be mounting on the rod. Because of this, and unless they were originally set up with the same reels, no two rods may have the exact same spacing. If you plan on using several different reels, or don’t know what reel you will use, we will use the manufacturers recommended spacing.
We start our Custom Shop Elite Series Rods with the following features. Every aspect of this rod is customizeable and can be changed.
